Dapper Gents

Folks,

feels like spring is in the air: it was all sunny today, and the temperature rose to about 10 degrees C°. Heaps of people were floating on the streets, and it all felt like a city regaining pace after a long winter sleep.

I attended a style gathering at a café / bar / shop next to the "Alte Oper", and all i can say is that it just blew my mind entirely. It felt like a bigger version of the Rat Pack was in town: men handsomely groomed, clothed extraordinarily well and in a mood of chat about shoes, clothes, ties, pocket squares and so on. I guess the town has never seen so many people being able to serve as style icons in one place. The best thing about that: i had the chance to shoot some pics, so you can see what i am talking about. To the guys who were there: thank you for that pleasant afternoon, and hell, you know your game. You did overwhelmingly good!
A special thx goes out to ddot: now i know how to tie that bow tie with no effort at all!

I told you i was planning to go on a thrift session, and so it was. I was accompanied by two fellow stylemen, the three of us being wingmen for each other. What´s a wingman´s job? Right, giving advice when asked for, protecting you from all harm (in this context: non-fitting jackets and eyebreaking ties) and praise one´s style whenever it is suitable. Flamboyance and Excalibur served well on their duty, which led to two finds at the Aurum: a yellow-green tartan tie and a pair of brown-grey trousers from the italian brand of Dolce & Gabbana. They just need a little alteration and that´s it...

Thrift Shopping and going backwards in time

Good on ya, mates!

just two posts ago i praised the art of thrift shopping as a real virtue. Today my gf and me went to a flea market to see if we could find some bow ties for me. Unfortunately, there were a lot of things to see and buy, but bow ties. In order not to have waisted time for nothing we bought two glasses of jam, one flavoured with apple and elder, the other with demson plum, lemon and ginger. These two will surely make a good breakfast...

As you might have noticed, my blogroll is full of streetstyle blogs from all over the world...one inspired to go for the following outfit, quite a reminiscence to former, if not better, times...

If you like Chai Tea, you should get one of these: prepared with hot milk, they really taste great.

What i really liked about her was the combination of her bright blue shirt with that ethnic print and her wrist bands...they just matched perfectly. To top that of, she even had blue finger nails, resembling the blue of her shirt...another examples of how important it is to look for the details :-) (there is no such thing as "trying too hard")

Virtual thrift shopping

Folks,

i like thrift shopping, be it virtual or real. If you've got the time to browse through tons of crap until you have the pleasure to find something extraordinary, i advise you to do so. There is always a chance of a real bargain to grab right there waiting for you.

I'm not yet very familiar with bow ties, but i wish to change that: accordingly, i bought one on ebay.co.uk for only 5 pounds (which is about 6,20 euros). As you all know, my guilty pleasure is the paisley pattern, and yes, surely this one has it, for real:

Nathan, one of my favourite sellers on ebay, tempted me with a lovely, slim grey Harris-tweed jacket, once tailored by St. Michaels in the late 80's...sure i had to buy it.

Although i do like the snow, i'm seeing forward to the upcoming spring and summer. Why? Well, first of all, you don´t have to wear a coat over your jacket, and, what is more important, you are not in danger of scuttling your shoes by merely wearing them. Here is my latest catch, a lovely Burton chukka boot with distressed sand-coloured leather...

In my opinion, style has got nothing to do with money.
It is very easy to dress up when you don't have to care about money. Instead of just being equipped by a sales person who is not interested in you, but your capability to increase his or her bonus, limited financial scopes help you to develop your own style. This is because you have to consider very carefully if the piece of cloth at hand suits your needs and is worth being spent half of your monthly income on (i'm exaggerating a bit, but you get my point, do you?).

Outfits

Folks,

today, i had my "first time"...i was wearing a black bow tie, which i never have done before. And despite the fact that i am not familiar with bow ties, there is something about it, don´t you think? Please excuse my facial expression on the first pic, i was just ahh....well....in thoughts.

I was wearing the second outfit just the other day, having put on my prey from the local thrift store...an Edsor Kronen tie, a pale blue shirt and a white silk hanky, sported with a velvet blue jacket. Just plain simple i guess...and yes, i know i have been elaborating on this issue, but really, "trying too hard" does not exist in my universum...so check out the lovely cufflinks and be stunned how they match the colour of the other wardrobe items...

Thrift-Shopping

Liebe Leserschaft,
